Dailymirror.news,Hyderabad, March 20, 2025:The Kohli Centre on Intelligent Systems (KCIS) at the International Institute of Information Technology Hyderabad (IIITH) marked the 101st birth anniversary of Sri F.C. Kohli, the father of Indian IT and founder of TCS, with a grand celebration. The event featured the fifth edition of the FC Kohli Talks and the inauguration of the Centre for Digital Technologies in Healthcare (CDiTH).
A key highlight of the event was the annual Kohli Day Lecture delivered by Dr. D. Nageshwar Reddy, Chairman of AIG Hospitals. Dr. Reddy, the only Indian doctor to receive all three Padma Awards—Padma Shri, Padma Bhushan, and Padma Vibhushan—spoke on “AI & Healthcare – Opportunities and Challenges – Why Doctors Don’t Like AI.”

In his address, Dr. Reddy candidly admitted that he was initially skeptical about AI in healthcare, believing it would take years to become effective. However, he acknowledged its growing significance and shared insights on AI’s role in medical advancements.
“Like many doctors, I too didn’t like AI initially. I thought it was too complex and would take years to make an impact. But over the past few years, I have realized its immense potential,” he remarked, addressing an audience of over 250 doctors, engineers, technologists, students, and faculty members.

AI’s Role in Healthcare
Dr. Reddy elaborated on various AI applications in medicine, such as:
- Colonoscopy Enhancements: AI significantly improves polyp detection, making it more effective than human diagnosis and aiding in the prevention of colon cancer.
- Bacterial Studies: With the human body comprising 30 trillion human cells, 39 trillion microbial cells, 20,000 human genes, and 20 million microbial genes, AI plays a crucial role in studying bacteria and microbiomes.
- Emergency Care: AIG Hospitals performs over 2,000 surgeries per month. By using AI, they have managed to prevent critical “Code Blue” situations and save up to three lives daily.
- Smart Hospital Beds: AI-powered beds, equipped with sensors and algorithms, monitor patient activity and health conditions.
- Smart Toilets: AI is being explored for stool analysis, offering diagnostic insights.
- Predictive Medicine & Drug Discovery: AI aids in early diagnosis, personalized treatment, and pharmaceutical research.
Dr. Reddy emphasized that while AI enhances healthcare, it will not replace doctors. However, AI-savvy doctors will have an edge over those who do not adopt the technology. He also highlighted challenges such as data security, cyber threats, and the urgent need for AI regulations in healthcare.
