Dailymirror.news,National, June 1, 2025:IndiGo, India’s leading airline, has announced a major expansion of its wide-body fleet by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Airbus. The agreement converts 30 of IndiGo’s existing purchase rights into a firm order, doubling its Airbus A350-900 order to 60 aircraft. This move underscores IndiGo’s ambitions to emerge as a key player in global aviation.

The airline had previously, in April 2024, committed to 30 A350-900 aircraft with options for an additional 70. The deliveries for the original order are scheduled to begin in 2027. Today’s announcement reinforces IndiGo’s strategy to expand its long-haul international network, connecting India’s major cities to global destinations and facilitating partnerships with international airlines.

The A350-900s will be powered by Rolls-Royce’s Trent XWB engines, offering exceptional performance, efficiency, and range. These capabilities will enable IndiGo to broaden its network, offering travelers more options to reach destinations across the globe.

In preparation for its long-haul expansion, IndiGo had already begun introducing six wet-leased wide-body aircraft in March 2025, with deliveries expected to be completed by 2026.

As India’s aviation market continues to boom and with strong government backing to establish the country as a global aviation hub, IndiGo’s enhanced wide-body fleet positions it at the forefront of this growth, ready to meet the rising demand for international travel.
