Dailymirror.news, Hyderabad, March 2, 2025: The Telangana Engineering, Agriculture, and Pharmacy Common Entrance Test (TG EAPCET) will not have any examination centres in Andhra Pradesh this year. Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University (JNTU) – Hyderabad, the organizing body, has decided to remove exam centres from AP, including those previously planned in Vijayawada and Kurnool.
The move comes after the Telangana State government scrapped the 15% non-local quota, which allowed Andhra Pradesh students to compete for admissions in Telangana colleges.

“With the non-local quota being removed, there is no requirement for exam centres in AP. We have taken legal advice before implementing this decision,” said a senior official.

Impact on Andhra Pradesh Students
Every year, over 55,000 students from Andhra Pradesh register for TG EAPCET, primarily for engineering, agriculture, and pharmacy programmes. To accommodate them, exam centres were previously set up in cities like Kurnool, Vijayawada, Visakhapatnam, Tirupati, and Guntur. However, with the new admission policy, AP students will no longer have a dedicated quota in Telangana colleges, reducing their participation in the entrance test.
Despite this, an estimated 3,000 AP students still enroll in Telangana engineering colleges each year.

Telangana Students to Get Majority of Seats

Starting this year, Telangana students will receive priority in professional course admissions due to the removal of the 15% non-local quota. Even if AP students achieve top ranks in the entrance test, they will not be eligible for admission in Telangana institutions unless they qualify under specific residency criteria.
According to the revised guidelines:
- 85% of seats in every professional course will be reserved for Telangana locals.
- The remaining 15% of seats will be unreserved, but eligibility is restricted to:
- Telangana locals
- Candidates who have resided in Telangana for 10 years (excluding time spent studying outside the state)
- Candidates whose parents have lived in Telangana for 10 years (excluding employment outside the state)
- Candidates whose parents or spouse work in Telangana under State or Central government institutions
With this change, Telangana students will dominate admissions, gaining a significant advantage in securing professional course seats.
