Dailymirror.news,Hyderabad, June 11, 2025:Local talent Ravi Kumar Banneoulu delivered an impressive performance in the under-15 Optimist fleet at the ongoing sailing regatta, winning a race and putting himself in strong contention for a podium finish. With four more races to go over the next three days, Ravi has become one to watch.

A student of Udbhav School, Rasoolpura, Ravi started strong but initially slipped to sixth place. However, a smart read of the wind shifts on his home turf helped him outpace Naveen M from Thara Home, Bowenpally. Naveen, an orphan who began sailing two years ago, led the race until Ravi overtook him at the finish line. Naveen has recently been selected by the Navy Youth Sports School at INS Mandovi, Goa, and will soon join the Navy Youth Team.

The under-15 category saw some ups and downs, with current leader Shreya Krishna dropping to ninth in one race. Nevertheless, she bounced back to win the final race of the day, retaining a strong lead and appearing set to clinch the gold.

In the under-19 420 class mixed doubles, the competition remained consistent, if somewhat predictable. Telangana’s pairs—Thanuja & Shravan and Deekshita & Ganesh—continued to dominate, securing the top two positions and almost guaranteeing gold and silver medals, respectively. Samriddhi & Parth from NSS Bhopal are holding firm at third place.

The Green Fleet (under-15 beginners) showcased rising talent from Haryana, with Aayu and Sakshi—both supported by the Yacht Club of Hyderabad—dominating the fleet. This is their third championship, and both seem destined for the podium with no real competition in sight.

Ishi Gupta of Secunderabad Sailing Club and Sakshi Mandal of Telangana Sailing Association are following closely. Remarkably, girls are outpacing boys across the board in the under-15 category this year.

In the under-18 Laser class, Navy Youth Sailing Team’s Sharanya Jhadav and Ramakant are leading the pack and are well-positioned for podium finishes, despite some upcoming challenges.

Looking ahead, many of these top performers will represent India at the Langkawi Youth International Regatta in Malaysia starting June 16. The Indian contingent will comprise 24 sailors and 4 coaches, including 10 participants from Hyderabad.
