A Tribute to Telugu Cinema’s Timeless Classics

The festival introduces special segments like ‘Timeless Tales’ and ‘Legacy Rewind’, offering audiences the rare opportunity to revisit some of the most celebrated films from Indian and world cinema on the big screen.

Leading the Telugu lineup is ‘Mayabazar’ (1957), a cinematic marvel by K.V. Reddy, which continues to be cherished across generations. Joining this esteemed selection is ‘Missamma’ (1955), L.V. Prasad’s socially insightful yet humorous classic. Reflecting on his father’s film, Ramesh Prasad shared, “Missamma balanced religious harmony with romantic comedy in a way that was groundbreaking for the 1950s. Honoring Singeetham Srinivasa Rao, the festival will screen two of his revolutionary films—‘Pushpaka Vimana’ (1987) and ‘Aditya 369’ (1991). A silent black comedy, Pushpaka Vimana remains one of India’s boldest cinematic experiments, while Aditya 369, featuring Nandamuri Balakrishna, paved the way for Indian sci-fi with its visionary time-travel concept. Reflecting on his journey, Singeetham Srinivasa Rao remarked, “Creating a silent film like Pushpaka Vimana and a time-travel story like Aditya 369 was a challenge, but their continued impact proves the timeless power of visual storytelling.”

The festival will also screen ‘Manmadhudu’ (2002), starring Nagarjuna Akkineni and Sonali Bendre. Celebrated for its humor and depth, the film remains a cult favorite. Nagarjuna Akkineni stated, “Every dialogue in Manmadhudu has deeper meaning. It’s a film that still makes people smile, and I’m excited for festivalgoers to experience it again.”

Another celebrated entry is Ram Gopal Varma’s ‘Kshana Kshanam’ (1991), a gripping thriller featuring Sridevi and Daggubati Venkatesh. Known for its stylish cinematography and Ilaiyaraaja’s iconic soundtrack, the film set new benchmarks for Telugu thrillers.

Reflecting on Chandamama, Krishna Vamsi said, “This film was a tribute to the simple joys of village life. Seeing it recognized at the festival reaffirms the authenticity of its storytelling.”

The lineup also includes ‘Nene Raju Nene Mantri’ (2017), a gripping political thriller starring Rana Daggubati and Kajal Aggarwal. Cinematographer Venkat C. Dileep shared, “We crafted the visuals to reflect Jogendra’s evolving conscience. This recognition at the festival validates the creative risks we took.”
