Daily Mirror.news, March 1, 2026:New Delhi, March 1, 2026: In a major step toward strengthening digital safety, Bharti Airtel and Google have announced a strategic collaboration to roll out an AI-powered, secure Rich Communications Services (RCS) messaging platform in India.

The initiative aims to significantly reduce spam and digital fraud while offering users a safer and more interactive messaging experience.

Airtel’s Ongoing Fight Against Spam..

Over the past 18 months, Airtel has spearheaded India’s anti-spam drive with AI-driven solutions across calls and SMS. The telecom operator has blocked over 71 billion spam calls and 2.9 billion spam SMS messages, resulting in a remarkable 68.7% reduction in financial fraud losses across its network.

However, a critical gap remains within non-telco digital platforms, where safety checks are often less stringent. Fraudsters have increasingly exploited such channels for financial scams and spam activities.

Bridging the Security Gap..

The Airtel-Google partnership seeks to extend telecom-grade safeguards to modern messaging platforms. By embedding Airtel’s intelligence layer into Google’s RCS ecosystem, the collaboration establishes a new global benchmark for secure, carrier-backed messaging services.

Gopal Vittal, Executive Vice Chairman of Airtel, stated that customer protection remains a top priority and emphasized the need for broader OTT platforms to adopt stronger anti-spam safeguards.

Sameer Samat, President of Android Ecosystem at Google, highlighted the partnership as a pioneering effort to standardize messaging security and build trusted communication channels worldwide.

Key Security Features of the New RCS Platform..

The enhanced RCS platform will provide:

Telco-backed business identity verification

Strict adherence to DND (Do Not Disturb) preferences

Blocking of spam business messages

Multi-layer malicious domain filtering

AI-based throttling of suspicious senders flagged by both Airtel and Google

Messages will be accessible via Google Messages, available on most Android devices.

A Global Blueprint for Messaging Safety..

Industry experts view this collaboration as a world-first example of telecom service providers and global tech platforms jointly implementing telecom-grade accountability measures within OTT messaging ecosystems.

By combining AI-driven threat detection, sender authentication, and customer consent mechanisms, the initiative aims to create a safer digital environment and set a precedent for global messaging security standards.
