Dailymirror.news, Hyderabad, May 7th, 2025 (Dailymirror.news Special Correspondent): The Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA) is poised to significantly enhance its fight against illegal land occupation in the city with the inauguration of its own dedicated police station tomorrow. Chief Minister Sri Revanth Reddy is scheduled to officially open the new facility, strategically located within the HYDRAA complex near Buddha Bhavan.

This move to establish a specialized police unit, mirroring the structure of dedicated forces for disaster response (DRF) and fire safety, underscores HYDRAA’s commitment to more effectively combat unauthorized constructions and encroachments. Leading the new police station as the Station House Officer (SHO) will be ACP P. Thirumal.

The initial team will comprise a seasoned circle inspector along with six inspectors, twelve sub-inspectors, and thirty constables. The newly constructed G+2 building, offering approximately 10,500 square feet of operational space, is set to become a central hub for HYDRAA’s law enforcement operations.

Enhanced Action Against Illegal Activities:

The dedicated HYDRAA police station will serve as the primary point for registering and investigating criminal offenses related to the unlawful occupation of government land, public spaces, parks, roads, lakes, and waterways. Armed with specific legal authority, the station will have the power to apprehend individuals found in violation of these regulations.

This proactive approach will extend to cases involving the unauthorized dumping of soil in protected areas and the illegal transportation of earth, targeting not only the transporters but also the involved contracting companies and the final recipients of the material. Furthermore, the direct discharge of untreated sewage into water bodies will also be subject to legal action through this new police unit.

Targeting the Root of Encroachment Networks:

A key objective of the HYDRAA police station will be to dismantle the networks and identify the principal figures orchestrating land encroachments. This includes a focus on individuals who exploit vulnerable populations by establishing temporary settlements as a precursor to land grabbing. Those involved in creating fraudulent documents and manipulating layout plans to seize government land will face criminal charges and arrest.

The police station will also directly address violations of the WALTA Act and fire safety regulations, ensuring swift investigation and prosecution. Stricter measures will be implemented against those encroaching upon designated roads and public spaces within approved layouts, as well as the owners of unauthorized advertising hoardings. The illegal transport of sand and unauthorized building activities will also be actively countered.

Safeguarding Public and Individual Interests:

The HYDRAA police station will also act as a vital resource for ordinary citizens facing issues within residential layouts, particularly those whose properties are being encroached upon by neighboring landowners who subsequently alter the original layout plans.

The dedicated police force will investigate such instances, ensuring that justice is served to those whose property rights have been violated. Acting on grievances filed through public channels, the HYDRAA police will conduct thorough on-site investigations and hold those responsible accountable.

HYDRAA’s previous efforts have already resulted in the reclamation of hundreds of acres of government land and the protection of numerous lakes, parks, and canals. Over fifty pending cases related to these issues, previously handled by various police jurisdictions, will now be consolidated under the authority of the HYDRAA police station, aiming for a more focused and effective strategy in addressing land-related crimes.
