Dailymirror.news,India, December 18th,2025: In a major push for border area development, Signify (formerly Philips Lighting) has announced a transformative initiative to install LED street lighting in 100 villages along the 1,700 km Indo-Nepal border.
The project, titled “Har Gaon Roshan” (Every Village Lit), is being executed in collaboration with the Tarq Foundation and under the strategic guidance of India’s Defence Minister, Shri Rajnath Singh. The mission aims to address critical infrastructural gaps in these remote regions, where a lack of illumination has historically hindered mobility and safety after sunset.

Empowering Border Communities
The Indo-Nepal border region is home to vibrant communities that face unique geographic and security challenges. By “LEDifying” these 100 villages, the initiative seeks to deliver three primary outcomes:
Enhanced Safety: Reducing crime and improving the sense of security for women and children.
Economic Growth: Extending hours for local markets and evening trade, thereby boosting livelihoods.
Sustainability: Utilizing energy-efficient LED technology to ensure long-term, low-maintenance infrastructure.
“Light is not symbolic; it is practical, protective, and deeply empowering. Border communities have unique rhythms—evening markets and long walks home from school-that are directly shaped by how well-lit their surroundings are.”-Manoviraj Singh, Founding Partner, Tarq Foundation

Strategic Alignment with National Vision
The project aligns with the Indian government’s focus on strengthening border infrastructure and the #BrighterLivesBetterWorld global vision of Signify. Rather than a “one size fits all” approach, the lighting placements were determined based on specific community input, footfall patterns, and high-risk safety areas.
Nikhil Gupta, Head of Marketing, Strategy, Govt. Affairs & CSR at Signify Greater India, stated: “Through this initiative, we aim to bring long-term safety, sustainability, and confidence to border communities. This partnership reflects our commitment to using light to positively impact lives.”
