Dailymirror.news,October,24th,2026:A Grade 12 student from Indus International School in Hyderabad has developed SummitSathi, an affordable, offline satellite weather receiver designed to aid remote Himalayan communities during communication blackouts. Invented by Aagam Jain, the device pulls cloud imagery directly from weather satellites without relying on internet or mobile networks.
The system is currently operational across 10 villages in Himachal Pradesh’s Seraj valley (Mandi district). At a cost of approximately ₹68,000 per unit, three receivers are managed by trained local operators, providing supplemental weather data to over 1,000 residents during monsoon season network outages. Jain, who has received a patent for the innovation from the Indian Patent Office, emphasizes that SummitSathi serves as an additional information source rather than a replacement for official weather alerts or cloudburst predictions. He is slated to present this technology at the international remote-sensing conference, ECRS 2026.
Beyond his meteorological invention, Jain is heavily involved in astronomy and science outreach. He developed software to analyze 595 suspected exoplanets and conducted a 24-month study on urban light pollution across 25 locations in Hyderabad. Through his Summit Stargazer initiative, he has distributed his self-published astrophotography book, A Window to the Universe, to more than 350 students. Outside the sciences, he captains his school’s 170-member athletics team and competes nationally in sprinting and the hammer throw.
