Dailymirror.news, Hyderabad, September 30, 2026 : In a major push toward dignifying urban sanitation, the Government of Telangana has partnered with Hindustan Unilever Limited (HUL) to implement the Suvidha social innovation model across the state’s urban local bodies.

Through this collaboration, HUL acts as the design and knowledge partner, lending its decade-long operational expertise, technical frameworks, and community behaviour-change strategies developed in Mumbai. The Telangana government will leverage these blueprints to build, operate, and maintain comprehensive hygiene centres statewide.

A Decade of Proven Impact..

First launched in Mumbai in 2016 in partnership with the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation, HSBC India, and the JSW Foundation, Suvidha represents HUL’s flagship community hygiene platform. Operating 24/7, the model combines clean toilets, safe drinking water, showers, and laundry services in an integrated facility under one roof.

Across 25 operational centres in Mumbai, the model has delivered significant public health and economic outcomes:

• Footprint & Reach: Over 10 crore service uses logged to date, currently serving upwards of 600,000 residents annually with a 95% user satisfaction rate.
• Healthcare Gains: Users report a 50% decrease in diarrhoeal illness alongside markedly lower occurrences of urinary tract infections (UTIs).
• Economic Value: Independent evaluations indicate that beneficiary households save over ₹33,500 each year through reduced medical expenses and recovered time.

Scalable Blueprint for Civic Sanitation..

Engineered around community ownership, operational durability, and cross-sector partnerships, the Suvidha framework has already been codified into open-source guidelines in coordination with the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs via the Centre for Hygiene and Sanitation Excellence. The rollout across Telangana establishes a state-level operational model for modernizing municipal hygiene infrastructure at scale.
