Dailymirror.news,BODUPPAL,July 27th,2026: Over 800 young chess enthusiasts from four states converged at Pallavi Model School, Boduppal, on Monday for the inauguration of the South Zone CBSE (SZ–1) Boys Chess Championship 2026.

The four-day tournament, running from July 27 to July 30, has drawn 846 players representing 212 CBSE-affiliated schools across Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, and Puducherry.

FIDE Woman Grandmaster (WGM) Bodda Pratyusha officially inaugurated the championship by making the ceremonial first move. Addressing the young competitors, WGM Pratyusha urged them to approach the board with confidence, discipline, and a strong spirit of sportsmanship.

School Director Sushil Kumar, Principal T. Tanuja, and International Arbiter R. Chandramouli presided over the opening ceremony.

Speaking to the gathering, Director Sushil Kumar emphasized the broader cognitive benefits of the sport, noting its role in developing analytical thinking, patience, and critical decision-making skills in students. Principal T. Tanuja officially welcomed the visiting contingents and extended her best wishes for the intense matches ahead.

The organizers have made extensive arrangements to accommodate the massive influx of players and support staff, ensuring a smooth start to a championship that highlights the region’s commitment to both academic and athletic excellence.
